SECTION 1:

This is a resin sculpture where I have created 50 plus layers of life drawings, acetate sheets and charcoal to create a liminal space to portray the transparent vulnerability of my family history, thus portraying a visual representation of how pain can turn into bravery and persist through a liminal void of suppression.

This neo gothic turned revolutionary modernist cathedral done by Spanish architect Antonio Gaudi certainly cannot go unnoticed. It is constructed in such a beautiful manner, where light is used as a captivating vessel of neo-gothicism to navigate the intricate details of the church itself. Thus, using the stained glass windows to create an environment for reflection and portraying the religious obligation that was beautifully met using height and colour to manipulate unobstructed natural sunlight. As your eye navigates to the bottom of the church, you recognise a lesser amount of colourful filtered light, hereby creating a more natural absorption of light that gives us a conclusion that colour is used to associate with a certain degree of holiness, where the top of the cathedral represents an unattainable level that God obtains. As well as using the technique of leaded glass that creates a further dynamic and rhythmic effect, giving a vivid display that evokes life and an element of abstracted design. Hereby,  extruding the ultimate beauty of light that penetrates through the cathedral whilst achieving a sense of lightness as Gaudi aimed to achieve to make solid structures as light as a feather and to evoke the spiritual contrast of faith and emotional weight.

Soho, New York 2019 - Photograph by me

I took this image in June last year, and I personally saw its beauty through the idea of street art, where the use of public spaces and the general public become a part of the artwork. The local community becomes its home and the artwork itself becomes apart of the community. The use of acrylic and its instantaneous drying methods, exposes a sense of purity and raw emotion. Whereas oil and other methods have the opportunity to be durable and takes days, maybe even weeks to dry and where patience is key, emotion is key and unavoidable in mediums such as this one. Although other may not see this image itself as beautiful, I find the element of absolute raw emotion being expressed as beautiful.

Drawing/sketch for Sketch-up design :

I used the words Reflective and Pressure as my adjective and Noun - using the companies 'Mountain and Moon/Audrey Allen & Ashton Cameron' and Trent Jansens studio.

Sketch-Up:
This model is not my actual finished product for this assessment, as I have included it to show the process of my workings, but the following sketches/new design in photoshop is the one I would like to present as my final assessment.

Sketch up final - Sketch:

Here is my sketch, for my building design on sketch-Up. Here I have chosen Khyzyl Saleem who is a graphic artists who showcases a range of ambitious and intuitive cars through photography and adobe photoshop. I have taken the adjective Industrial to describe my upper level showroom. Where I have used  conventional industrial materials and used them in a non-conventional or non-stereotypical manner. Whereas, I have used Trent Jenson's studio/company as the inspiration for my lower/underground showroom, using the noun Pressure. I used the word pressure, because to me his work is all about pushing the mundane conventions of furniture and the abilities of the materials he uses, hereby putting pressure whether its physical heat or just using unconventional methods. I have encapsulated this in my showroom, as I have used simplistic elements that look like an unusual set of puzzle pieces that don't perfectly fit together, thus challenging the mundane ideal of puzzles and furthering on the meaning on pressure. The definition being when something is forced together and gets a positive or negative reaction. The negative space in-between the seperate boxes shows the force negatively pushing against one another, and putting negative pressure on each other.

Stairs drawing/sketches:

1. Ground to UPPER studio/showroom space for Khyzyl Saleem's Car company

Stair One:

Stair two: Spirals (Chosen as one of my two that I wanted to focus on) - I have chosen these spiral stairs to be made and assembled in my 3D model on Sketch-Up.

2. Ground to LOWER studio/showroom space for Trent Jenson's furniture company

Concept:

I challenge the stereotypical weight of industrial materials by using metal to create a light geometric stairway. My Inspiration also stems from the idea of car turntables. A tool Khyzyl Saleem embodies by his ability to elevate & showcase the beauty of vehicles through a creative outlet of photoshop. Conceptually portrayed through a spiral motion, exposing a spherical & geometric similarity.

Clients work displayed in Individual Studios:

Khyzyl Saleem Studio:

Here I have taken the image that has been created through adobe photoshop and planted it on to a object that creates a frame like composition in order to show the dynamics of his work as an artist, and to represent what the Show-ground will consist of, being a gallery that displays his digital artwork. Here I have used the pillars as the structure to hold and present Saleem's work, hereby showing the relationship between site and the clients work, and how they complement each-other.

Trent Jenson Studio:

Here I have taken a chair, a model of one of Trent Jansen's works that he has constructed, and situated  it with a saw workshop table in order to show the proportions of the object in the Below Studio, as well as giving the Below Plane context of what this studio will be used for.

                               Updated versions of Sketch-Up Design:

Sketches that show how my Upper and Lower studio stairs connect to surrounding architecture, through their composition, materials and structure:

Upper level Stairs:

This specific stair case connects with the surrounding architecture by fitting very elegantly on the new surface on both the elevated Upper Studio and the ground level. In order to stay coherent, the connection between the stairs and the Upper level studio is shown through the continuation of a geometric railing becoming the outline/railing for the Upper level Studio. The delicateness of the railing is also continued to create a dynamic and creative coherency of how industrial spaces can be constructed through light details, where the normal convention of industrial is large masses of weight through using heavy materials. Here, the the texture I have used for the stair railing is also continued in the railing for the upper level, as well as showing a contrast through the base of the upper studio having a different and distinctive pattern.

Lower level Stairs:

These stairs connect with the architecture through the 6 columns on each tread that hang from the ceiling. Here, I have created floating stairs that contain the safety element of a dynamic hanging railing. Here, are some more sketches and images that illustrate the ways these stairs connect to the surrounding architecture through various elements.

These sketches demonstrate how the Lower level stairs connect with the Ground level. Here, I am creating a spherical composition that looks like cracked surface, which symbolises the original word I used for Trent Jansens studio space being "pressure". Here, I have shown the pressure of the stairs and the columns that hang from the ground level through this unique design. I have created this spherical element so you in a birds eye view you can see 15 stairs/treads. This is done in order for a person to be able to walk down and up these stairs without hitting his/her head, thus creating a spacious and enjoyable walk. The cyclindical barricade/Railing that surrounds these stairs, is covered in a texture that is also used on all other cyclical surfaces, so when walking or down these stairs you are enticed by this design.

Lower level stairs and connection to the Middle layer of the Below Studio section, directly beneath the Ground level. Hereby, being a transit point to get down to the lower studio, also being Trent Jansen's office space where he can come up with his ideas for his new constructions, that will be seen out and created in the below construction studio.

The stairs then come from this transit area/layer to the Lower/Bottom layer where I have created circular elevated surfaces that act as stairs. The stairs don't just simply align on to this surface, but I have mirrored the geometric railing that was seen in the Upper level spiral stairs. Here, I have created a geometric nexus between the 2nd last stair and the surface itself, to create a smooth nexus.

INTERIOR IMAGES/PHOTOS:

This is the Lower Studio for Trent Jansen, Here, I have created a series of cylindrical surfaces that have been elevated off the Bottom Plane, hereby acting as a larger set of stairs, where each surface is not levelled with the next creating a interesting type of surface to navigate through. Hereby, each surface becomes distinct for its own purpose whether it is dimensional planning or material storage, or the actual construction area.

This image is from the 3rd floor, the one in-between Ground and the Bottom level. Hereby, becoming the transit level that acts as Trent Jansens office space. This is an unusual space but overlooks the construction/workshop studio. Thus, allowing Trent to oversee the construction of his work as well as be inspired by it through the distinctive viewpoint this level gives.

This image shows the bottom result of the various cylindrical pillar that create a grey space in the above studio and ground showroom level. This becomes the structural integrity of the building, acting as a weight holding the buildings together. It also mirrors the idea of a tree root, through both the design and structural integrity of it.

Here is a birds eyes view of the transit and Bottom level, giving you an idea of the shapes and structures this lower studio area is made of, also giving you a perspective of the proportions of this model.
